Agência Minas Gerais | Epamig intensifica ações para a obtenção de cultivares de café arábica mais produtivas
A Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Minas Gerais (Epamig) realiza, ao longo de seus 50 anos, várias ações para o fortalecimento e a melhoria da cafeicultura do Estado e do Brasil. Até o momento, o Programa de Melhoramento Genético do Cafeeiro disponibilizou aos produtores rurais 21 cultivares de Coffea arabica L.
Atualmente, vários genótipos estão em diferentes fases de desenvolvimento nos campos experimentais da empresa. Entre estes genótipos, os híbridos de Coffea arabica L, têm recebido grande atenção, por apresentarem elevadas produtividades e reunirem em seu DNA resistências múltiplas às diferentes doenças fúngicas da cultura.
“Este trabalho foi fruto de diversas parcerias com diferentes instituições nacionais e internacionais e resultado do esforço conjunto de vários pesquisadores que buscam atender a demanda do mercado consumidor”, destaca o pesquisador da Epamig Gladyston Carvalho, lembrando que as ações são contínuas.
Clonagem
Na última semana, uma equipe da empresa Multicana Plus Service Ltda, especializada na clonagem de espécies vegetais, sediada em Holambra (SP) esteve no Campo Experimental da Epamig em Patrocínio para realizar a coleta de folhas de híbridos de café arábica.
“Foram selecionados 22 híbridos superiores dentre os 115 avaliados nas últimas três safras agrícolas. Os híbridos serão submetidos a multiplicação em laboratório, originando clones que posteriormente serão levados a campo”, informa o pesquisador da Epamig Vinícius Teixeira Andrade.
Ao final do processo de clonagem serão produzidas 17 mil mudas em laboratório, custeadas com recursos do Consórcio Pesquisa Café. “A clonagem permitirá acelerar o processo de avaliação destes híbridos superiores permitindo explorar o vigor híbrido em Coffea arabica L”, informa o pesquisador da Epamig / Consórcio Pesquisa Café, Francislei Vitti Raposo.
As mudas ficarão prontas em 2026 e serão levadas a campo em Unidades Demonstrativas (UD) nas principais regiões produtoras de café de Minas Gerais. A expectativa é que, após quatro colheitas, obtenha-se dois ou três híbridos validados para serem difundidos, entre os produtores, como cultivares comerciais superiores.
